lack of maintenence on preivious owners part? my 2, 210 deeres are still going strong. my 1984 210 needs rings, it burns oil but was a very very well maintained machine. it was always garaged! my 1977 deere my workhorse was not, it was a rust bucket when i got it. after a rebuild on the engine it runs like new! i have never heard any funny noises from the tranny! but my 84 210 tractor takes its sweet time speeding up when you push the variator forward. any ideas?
Holy cow, put a air cleaner on it, some ag tires and your good to go. Those old 200 series are notorious for that sound from the tranny when there is a lot of wear in there, specially 2nd gear. Oh your not destroying it, your not even making it work. Wanna make it work, put about 500 pounds on it and hook it to a 4500 pound sled, that bad girl with the variator will do anything you want. As long as its in good condition.
i really dont see why people think they are ruining the tractor deeres are tough, stuff like this wont hurt them, ive had my ‘73 jd 70 in up to the oil pan in my pond and its still unstoppable
sounds very tired. rebuild that poor engine before it blows up!! you can still save the block. i have a 71 112 and i love it. if you rebuild that engine, it will last many years. i have to admit a little mud never hurt it as your as your not stupid about it. have fun with it but dont kill it.
Maybe someday, you guys will discover some ‘redneck, mud-boggin’ beeYatches!!! (They’ll need a li’l help on that carb ‘throat’ prolly too…but once u git’m runnin’….u’ll be MUDD’N!!!
Reminds me of my father’s old John Deere 214, which he sold years ago after moving to our current location (small yard). The mower we have now (a Troy Bilt), I’ve taken it over a small hole in the garden a few times and got stuck, came close to tipping it, but got it out using foot power.
the grinding comes from the fact that I cant find two other bolts for the motor mounts, so as the engine runs, it moves back and forth, causing the idler to move a lot and occasionally rub on the frame.
lol… come on.. put some super lugs and Xtrac tires on it.. 1 1/4 to 2 inch exhaust, bore and port and polish and then itll be fun. Check out my video of my 216. Blows flames.

That poor 210 has “rebuild me” written all over it. My 212 was in worse shape, it finally died after hauling downed trees from our fence row.
yeah it never had one when I bought it and I finally found one
No air cleaner?

Is the grinding noise coming from the tranny? Sounds like the machine’s had better days, still nice though.
